FAQ

What is Kundalini Energy?

Kundalini energy is your innate life force — a powerful, creative energy that rests at the base of the spine, often symbolized as a coiled serpent.

When awakened through breathwork, movement, mantra, and meditation, this energy rises through the chakras, clearing blockages and activating higher states of awareness, intuition, and vitality.

When awakened through practices like breathwork, movement, mantra, and meditation, this energy begins to rise upward through the chakras (energy centers), clearing blockages, expanding awareness and reconnecting you with your highest potential.

It’s not something you have to create.

It’s already within you — waiting to be activated, honored, and embodied.

What is Kundalini Yoga?

Kundalini Yoga is often called “the yoga of awareness.”

It’s a dynamic practice that combines movement, breathwork, mantra, and meditation to awaken your energy and connect you to your true self.

Unlike styles focused only on flexibility or fitness, Kundalini Yoga works deeply on your nervous system, glandular system, and subconscious mind — helping you release blocks, regulate emotions, and expand your inner strength.

It’s powerful, efficient, and accessible to all levels.

Even a short practice can shift your energy, clear mental fog, and bring you back to your center.

This is yoga for modern life — a practice for those who want clarity, grounded power, and a deeper connection to purpose.

Can anyone practice Kundalini Yoga, even without flexibility or experience?

Kundalini Yoga is accessible to all levels, including beginners. The focus is not on perfecting postures but on experiencing the flow of energy and connection within.

How Often Should You Practice Kundalini Yoga?

The answer lies in your personal goals and commitment to transformation. Kundalini Yoga is not just a physical practice—it is a powerful technology for shifting energy, expanding awareness, and creating lasting change in your life.

Like any discipline, consistency is key. The more regularly you practice, the deeper and more profound the benefits will be.

Is Kundalini Yoga dangerous?

Kundalini Yoga is not inherently dangerous — when practiced with awareness and proper guidance, it is a deeply healing and transformative system.

However, it works with powerful energetic and emotional layers, which can sometimes bring intense experiences to the surface. This is why it’s important to approach the practice with respect, grounding, and support from a qualified teacher.

Kundalini is your own life force. It’s not something to fear — it’s something to honor, awaken, and embody with care.

What Does Kundalini Energy Feel Like?

The awakening of Kundalini energy is one of the most profound and life-altering inner experiences. Those who have felt it describe a range of physical, emotional, and spiritual sensations.

Common Experiences of Kundalini Awakening:

  • A warm or electric current moving up the spine

  • Waves of heat or energy flowing through the body

  • Pulsations in the chakras, especially the heart or third eye

  • Emotional release — spontaneous tears, laughter, or deep joy

  • A feeling of being flooded with light or inner radiance

  • Expansive states of awareness or oneness with the universe

  • Goosebumps, trembling, or gentle internal vibration

  • A powerful sense of inner clarity, purpose, and presence

This energy can be gentle and blissful or intense and purifying — but always deeply transformative.

Why do Kundalini Yoga practitioners wear white and use sheepskin rugs?

Wearing white in Kundalini Yoga is believed to expand your aura, enhance your radiance, and create a sense of purity and clarity. White reflects all colors and supports a more elevated, neutral energetic state.

Sheepskin rugs are traditionally used to provide a natural insulation between the body and the Earth, helping to stabilize the electromagnetic field and support energetic balance during practice.

These are supportive tools — but not required. What truly matters is your presence, intention, and connection within.

If I’m religious, can I practice Kundalini Yoga? Is it against religion?

Kundalini Yoga is not a religion — it’s a spiritual technology that supports inner awareness, balance, and well-being. People of all faiths — and no faith — practice Kundalini Yoga to deepen their connection to themselves and, if they choose, to their own spiritual path.

It doesn’t ask you to believe in anything or give up your personal beliefs. Instead, it offers practical tools like breathwork, meditation, and mantra to calm the mind, strengthen the body, and awaken your inner wisdom.

Kundalini Yoga can complement — not replace — your religious or spiritual life.

It’s about experience, not dogma.

Can Kundalini Yoga help with depression?

Yes, Kundalini Yoga can be a powerful support in working through depression. This practice combines breathwork, dynamic movement, meditation, and mantra to:

  • regulate the nervous system,

  • balance hormonal activity,

  • release suppressed emotions from the subconscious,

  • and reconnect you with a sense of purpose, presence, and inner strength.

Many students report feeling lighter, clearer, and more hopeful even after just a few sessions. While it’s important to seek professional help for clinical depression, Kundalini Yoga can be a deeply transformative tool that supports emotional healing and self-discovery.

Who should avoid practicing Kundalini Yoga?

Kundalini Yoga is generally safe and accessible for most people, but — like any powerful practice — it should be approached with awareness and care.

You should consult with a healthcare provider before beginning if you:

  • Are pregnant or recently postpartum

  • Have a history of epilepsy or seizures

  • Struggle with severe anxiety, trauma, or psychiatric conditions

  • Have heart conditions or other serious medical concerns

Some kriyas and breathwork techniques can be intense. In my approach, I offer gentle, trauma-aware modifications to ensure the practice meets you where you are.

Your well-being is the priority. Always listen to your body — and never force anything.

How to Prepare for Your Kundalini Yoga Practice?

Creating the right environment helps you drop deeper into the experience and receive the full benefits of the practice.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  1. A quiet, private space

    • Choose a place where you won’t be disturbed. Your practice is sacred — even a small corner can become a sanctuary when approached with intention.

  2. A yoga mat or folded blanket

    • Make sure you’re comfortable sitting and moving. You can also use a firm cushion (small pillow) to support your spine during seated postures.

  3. Loose, comfortable clothing

    • Ideally made of natural fabrics like cotton or linen — this allows your body to breathe and energy to move freely without restriction.

  4. A bottle of water

    • Hydration supports energy flow, especially during dynamic kriyas and breathwork.

  5. A pair of warm socks

    • Have them nearby for relaxation at the end of practice — especially during shavasana, when the body naturally cools down.

  6. Optional: Atmosphere

Light a candle, burn incense, or create a simple altar. Beauty and intention support presence.

Let your space reflect the energy you want to invite in.
